Become an Accredited Touch Football Referee in 2025!

Are you passionate about touch football? Whether you're looking to get involved in officiating for the first time or aiming to advance your refereeing skills, here's your chance!

The Townsville Touch Referees Association Inc. (TTRA) and Townsville Touch Football (TTF) have organised the a number of courses throughout 2025, and best of all, they're free of charge!

All sessions are free for registered TTF and TTRA members and will be held at TTF's Queens Park clubhouse and playing fields on Paxton Street, North Ward.

Why Get Accredited?

Refereeing is a fantastic way to deepen your understanding of touch football, improve your confidence, and contribute to the game while staying active. Accredited referees also have opportunities to officiate at local, regional, and even national levels.

All accreditations require attendance at a face-to-face theory session, and online enrolments is quick and easy online via ttra.au/courses.


Level 1 Referee Accreditation – Entry-Level

The Level 1 accreditation is the foundation of touch football officiating and is perfect for newcomers to refereeing. You don’t need an extensive background in the sport to complete this accreditation.

Level 1 Theory Sessions (4 hours), choose from:

  • Sunday 23rd March 2025; or
  • Saturday 26th April 2025; or
  • Sunday 24th August 2025; or
  • Sunday 7th September 2025

Level 1 Requirements

  • Must be 12 years or older
  • Must complete the Australian Sports Commission's (ASC) 'Community Officiating Essential Skills Course' (online)

Assessment

  • No formal assessment – accreditation is automatically awarded upon completing the Level 1 theory session and meeting the prerequisites.

Level 2 Referee Accreditation – Intermediate Level

The Level 2 accreditation is designed for existing referees with at least 12 months of experience and provides training for those looking to move into representative-level officiating.

Level 2 Theory Sessions (4 hours), choose from:

  • Sunday 23rd March 2025; or
  • Sunday 7th September 2025

Level 2 Requirements

  • Must hold a current Level 1 accreditation

Assessment

  • Conducted only after completing a Level 2 theory session
  • Organised by the TTRA and accredited Referee Coaches
  • Matches must be of a suitable standard (e.g., Colliers Shield 4th grade or above in senior competitions or Under 14s or older in junior competitions)

Level 3 Referee Accreditation – Advanced Level

The Level 3 accreditation is for referees looking to officiate at regional and state-level tournaments.

Level 3 Theory Session (4.5 hours)

  • Sunday 23rd March 2025

Level 3 Requirements

  • Must be 13 years or older
  • Must have held Level 2 accreditation for at least 12 months

Assessment

  • Only conducted after successful completion of a Level 3 workshop
  • Requires TTRA endorsement based on referee performance
  • Conducted at a regional or state-level tournament
  • Matches must be of a suitable standard (e.g., Under 16s or higher)

Session Information & Enrolment

  • All theory sessions run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
  • Attendees should arrive no later than 8:45 AM and allow at least 30 minutes extra at the end
  • Participants only need to attend one session per accreditation level
  • Sessions are scheduled to accommodate different commitments:
    • March–August: Best for referees officiating senior competitions
    • August–December: Best for referees officiating junior, Summer Mixed, or Summer Men's competitions
